Very faint yellow ring spots develop on leaves several years after the tree becomes infected. Not every leaf or fruit on an infected tree will show symptoms. The virus can be detected more readily on leaves at the bottom and middle of the branch than at the tip.

Ring spots are evident as leaves begin to color just before leaf drop in the fall. Fall coloration may make identification of ring spots difficult.
