The emergence of flowers early in the growing season provides the first opportunity for growers to scout their fields for signs of PPV. The following illustrations show healthy and diseased peach flowers.

Healthy peach flower petals are a uniform pink color with no streaking.

Peach flowers may show early symptoms of the virus. PPV can only be positively identified, however, using serological laboratory tests. The dark pink streaks on the petals are symptoms of the virus. Symptoms are only obvious on varieties
with large showy flowers.
